Q:
What are preferences? #42
A: The
preferences section of the User CP controls how the site is displayed according to the way you want it to. You are able to select many different options to change the behavior of the site to suit your needs.
Q:
What is low bandwidth mode? #43
A: Low bandwidth mode will attempt to remove images in posts and avatars to aid the speed of narrow band users such as people on dial up. This will cut down the size of the pages at the expense of how the page looks.
Q:
What is GMT offset? #44
A: The GMT offset allows you change the times on the site to your specific timezone. GMT refers to Greenwich Mean Time. The offset is how many hours from GMT your timezone is. Most of the United States falls between -5 and -8 for non-daylight savings time. If you are in the Eastern Timezone, you put in -5 in the GMT offset field.
For Pacific, you would put -8. You can add a decimal for better accuracy.
Q:
What is date display? #45
A: You can change how the site displays times to however you want it. The function takes arguments just like
PHP's date function.
Examples of the time 1:17 PM May 5th, 2007:
"D M j, Y g:i:s A" would be Sat May 5, 2007 1:17:00 PM. This happens to be the default.
"F j, Y, g:i a" would be May 5, 2007, 1:17 pm.
"h:i:s, j-m-y" would be 13:17:00, 05-05-07.
Q:
How do I control how many items per page there are? #46
A: In the
preferences section of the User CP is an option called 'items per page' where you can select how many items (such as messages in a thread) are contained before another page is made. You can select 5-125 with 30 being the default.
A: Styles control the outward appearance of the entire network of sites. Changing the style you use will override any other area that selects its own style. Try out the .MacX theme for something a bit different.
Q:
How do I stop getting emails when I receive a new PM? #48
A: In the
preferences section of the User CP you can select if you want to receive emails when you get a new PM. You will only receive a single email telling you there is a new PM until you visit the site and check your PMs. The site will not flood you with emails if there are multiple new emails.
Q:
I like lurking, I want to hide myself from showing online. #49
A: Why? Well, you can do this if you want in the
preferences section of the User CP. It is the checkbox for 'hide my online status.'
Q:
Why are there two view styles for PMs? #50
A: There are two ways to view PMs on the site and both are usable. The default style uses a box system just like email. You have an inbox and sent box for instance. Each PM displays individually.
The threaded PM system acts like a forum thread between you and the person you are PMing. It will display the entire conversation in a threaded manner.
Q:
What does filtering mean? #51
A: This feature is due for an update. In a nutshell, the rating system on the forums allows members to rate posts made by other members. If the posts are rated good, the member will get a boosted rating. If they are rated bad, the member's rating will go down.
Setting the ratings to the lowest setting (-5 and -10) will show all posts.
Q:
How do I change my default post options? #52
A: In the
preferences section of the User CP at the bottom is where to set these options. They work everywhere that the options are shown. HTML does not matter since it has been disabled.
